The Insurance Institute of Zimbabwe (IIZ) is actively pursuing collaborations to enhance the multi-billion-dollar insurance industry. This initiative comes as the sector grapples with various challenges and seeks innovative solutions to remain competitive and relevant.
IIZ’s Strategic Vision
Davison Choeni, General Manager of IIZ, recently shared insights with NewsDay Business about the institution’s efforts to foster economic growth through strategic partnerships. The IIZ is engaging with diverse economic players to explore collaborative opportunities aimed at expanding the insurance sector.
Choeni highlighted the recent accolades received by IIZ, including recognition from the Zimbabwe Network for CEOs. “We have generated considerable excitement, evidenced by the awards and recognitions we’ve received. Our focus remains on maintaining this momentum,” Choeni stated.
Future Directions and Innovations
Looking ahead, the IIZ plans to explore new frontiers, including the potential launch of an Artificial Intelligence Institute of Zimbabwe. Choeni emphasized the importance of leveraging such advancements to benefit the insurance industry and its stakeholders. The institute is also dedicated to identifying and addressing pertinent topics related to skills development within the sector.
Additionally, ongoing discussions with the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe (MAZ) are underway. Choeni believes that collaboration with MAZ will enhance customer service and address issues related to timely claim payments. “By partnering with organizations like MAZ, we aim to foster a customer-centric approach, which will in turn resolve delays in claim settlements,” he explained.
Winter School Highlights and Future Engagement
The recent IIZ Winter School, held in Nyanga under the theme “Disruption and Opportunity — Equipping the Zimbabwean Insurance Industry for the Future,” underscored the need for industry-wide collaboration. Choeni expressed a commitment to translating the valuable lessons from the event into practical applications.
“We want to ensure that the insights gained from the Winter School are effectively implemented. We are considering additional forums for continued learning and support to facilitate the practical application of these lessons,” he said.
Choeni also proposed the creation of a new platform for ongoing learning and development. “We’ve discussed topics such as artificial intelligence and machine learning extensively. Our goal is to move beyond theoretical discussions and ensure these innovations are actively integrated into our practices,” he concluded.
The IIZ remains focused on driving growth and innovation within the insurance sector through strategic collaborations and continued professional development.
