Geo Underwriting is set to acquire Navigators & General (N&G), a specialized marine insurance provider, in a deal expected to finalize in the second half of 2024. This strategic acquisition will bring N&G’s expert team, currently based in Brighton, into the fold of Geo Underwriting. The established N&G portfolio will continue to operate under its brand while collaborating closely with Geo Marine.
N&G was founded in 1921 by Merchant Navy officer and World War I veteran Captain William Coombs. The company offers comprehensive coverage for a range of vessels and commercial marine trades, including marinas, boat builders, and hire fleets. N&G serves a diverse customer base, catering to both consumers and intermediaries.
“Navigators & General is a hugely successful brand with a rich heritage,” remarked Jaime Swindle, chief executive of Geo Underwriting. “The business will highly complement our marine specialism and expand our product and proposition to new and existing customers. We’re looking forward to welcoming the expert team in Navigators & General and together seizing the opportunities ahead of us.”
David Nichols, Zurich UK’s head of retail, echoed these sentiments, stating, “We carefully selected Geo to acquire N&G as they share the same values as Zurich and are a perfect partner to build a successful future, unlocking the full potential of the brand. Overall, they will give N&G the focus and investment it deserves, adding an even greater depth of experience and expertise to existing and future customers of the business.”
Nichols emphasized that the acquisition would bolster Geo Underwriting’s current operations and create new avenues for growth and innovation, benefiting both the N&G brand and its workforce.
