The Oyo State Health Insurance Agency has announced an ambitious initiative to provide health insurance for 10,000 students across the state.
Dr. Sola Akande, the Executive Secretary of the Agency, revealed that this effort aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s holistic strategy for education in Oyo State. The announcement came during a courtesy visit on Wednesday to Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OyoSUBEB).
“This visit is quite opportune as we are on the verge of starting the enrollment and validation process for 10,000 students who will benefit from our state health insurance program,” Dr. Akande stated.
He emphasized that the insurance program is set to significantly enhance the well-being of the participating students.
In response, Dr. Adeniran assured that OyoSUBEB is committed to ensuring the successful implementation of the enrollment process. He hailed the initiative as unprecedented in Nigeria and a potential benchmark for other southwestern states.
Adeniran also noted that a six-member committee, formed jointly by the two agencies, has been established to develop and expedite the program’s implementation. The insurance scheme is slated for launch in September, coinciding with the start of the new school year.
