ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (KGUN) — As Southern Arizona braces for another monsoon season, residents are facing a double whammy of increased car insurance rates and heightened storm-related risks. Experts attribute these rising costs primarily to the escalating expenses associated with repairing modern vehicles.
Keke Rodgers, an insurance broker with Country Financial, highlighted the significant factors driving up insurance premiums. “Many of today’s cars feature advanced technology like electric systems, sensors, and cameras. This makes even minor repairs, such as replacing a door panel, considerably more costly than in the past,” Rodgers explained.
The trend of rising repair costs shows no signs of abating. “Projections for 2024 suggest an even more challenging landscape,” Rodgers noted. “As materials and labor costs continue to climb, insurance rates are following suit.”
Drivers like William Neilson have felt the financial pinch firsthand, experiencing a $700 increase in insurance premiums over the past year. “It’s frustrating because everything seems to be getting more expensive,” Neilson lamented.
In response to these developments, experts advise motorists to review their insurance policies carefully. Comprehensive coverage is recommended to safeguard against damages caused by storms such as flooding and hail. However, it’s crucial to note that driving through floodwaters can expose drivers to significant financial risks. “If you decide to drive through flooded areas, you may be required to cover your deductible for any resulting damages,” Rodgers cautioned.
As the region prepares for potentially severe weather, the message remains clear: drivers should take proactive steps to protect themselves and their vehicles from the financial impacts of unpredictable monsoon conditions.
