Markel has announced the appointment of Stacey Hinton as the new Senior Underwriter and Head of Jewellers Block within its specie team, effective immediately. This strategic role will see Hinton overseeing the growth and profitability of Markel’s international jewellers block portfolio, an essential segment of the company’s insurance offerings.
In her new position, Hinton will be responsible for:
Overseeing the Jewellers Block Portfolio: Leading the development and management of Markel’s international jewellers block insurance products to enhance profitability and market presence.
Building Relationships: Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with brokers and clients to better understand their needs and provide tailored solutions.
Collaborating Across Teams: Working closely with the broader specie team and other divisions within Markel to implement a cohesive jewellers block underwriting strategy.
Enhancing Underwriting Processes: Continuously improving underwriting processes to ensure they meet the evolving demands of the jewellery industry.
Hinton will operate out of Markel’s London office and report directly to Rob Ashby, the head of the specie division.
Stacey Hinton brings nearly two decades of experience in the insurance sector to her new role at Markel. Her most recent position was as head of specie at Convex Insurance. Hinton’s career in underwriting includes roles at Fidelis Insurance and Starstone Insurance, where she specialized in specie coverage. She began her career in 2006 at Tysers and has also held positions at Arch Insurance and Ocaso Insurance.
Rob Ashby highlighted the increasing risks faced by businesses in the jewellery trade, particularly the rise in theft and burglary exacerbated by challenging economic conditions. He emphasized the necessity for insurers to provide specialized and adaptable coverage solutions that align with the unique needs of the jewellery industry.
Ashby expressed his enthusiasm for Hinton’s appointment, stating: “With close to 20 years’ experience – the vast majority gained in specie underwriting roles – she adds a significant amount of experience to an already well-established team.” He believes that Hinton’s extensive knowledge and industry connections will enhance the team’s capabilities, allowing Markel to deliver superior service to clients and brokers while reinforcing its position as a leader in jewellers block insurance.
Stacey Hinton’s appointment marks a significant step for Markel as it seeks to strengthen its jewellers block portfolio amid a challenging market landscape. With her extensive experience and commitment to enhancing underwriting practices, Hinton is poised to lead the team in delivering tailored insurance solutions that meet the needs of the jewellery trade, thereby solidifying Markel’s reputation in this specialized insurance sector.
