In the aftermath of recent tornadoes and hailstorms that battered the Permian Basin, residents are grappling with the aftermath, especially when it comes to insurance claims.
Esperanza Garcia, an agency owner at Farmers Insurance, emphasized the importance of choosing a reputable local company when filing claims for home and car damage. She advised against engaging with door-to-door solicitors and recommended relying on reviews and recommendations from trusted sources, such as online platforms like Google.
“The key is to use a local company with positive reviews, especially those known for their proficiency in working with insurance companies,” Garcia stated.
The Better Business Bureau also cautioned residents about opportunistic individuals or companies that may try to exploit the situation by offering repair services. They advised consumers to remain vigilant and thoroughly vet any service providers before engaging with them.
Garcia noted that affected individuals typically have up to a year to file insurance claims. Already, approximately 400 claims have been lodged in both Midland and Odessa following the recent severe weather events, highlighting the widespread impact on local homes and vehicles.
As the community continues its recovery efforts, understanding the insurance process and selecting reliable partners remains crucial for residents seeking to repair and rebuild in the wake of natural disasters.
