KUALA LUMPUR, 21 April 2025 — MSIG Insurance (Malaysia) Bhd has introduced a groundbreaking enhancement to its personal accident (PA) insurance offerings, unveiling the MSIG PA Add-On: Assisted Living. This new feature is the first of its kind in Malaysia’s general insurance market, offering financial support for assisted living—a benefit traditionally available only through life insurance.
The Assisted Living add-on is designed to fill a crucial gap in protection for individuals who suffer a sudden loss of independence due to accidents or unforeseen circumstances. With this initiative, MSIG becomes the first general insurer in Malaysia to provide this form of coverage within a PA policy framework.
Available exclusively to policyholders of Prime PA, Individual PA, and Senior Citizen PA plans, the add-on offers up to RM5,000 per month for a maximum of 12 months per injury. The financial aid covers nursing care at licensed facilities, such as registered nursing homes or care centres, or in-home care provided by qualified nurses.
Eligibility for claims requires certification by a registered medical practitioner that the policyholder is unable to perform at least three out of six standard Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): dressing, washing, toileting, mobility, transfer, and feeding. Continued eligibility must be confirmed through a follow-up assessment six months after the initial claim.
The coverage is aimed at easing the financial burden for those facing reduced independence, offering peace of mind to individuals and their families. It supports both personal care and caregiving for elderly or disabled loved ones.
Annual premiums for the add-on start at an accessible RM37, with eligibility open to Malaysians, permanent residents, work permit holders, and their dependents. Entry is available to individuals aged 16 to 59, with renewability extending to 80 years of age depending on the base policy.
“This new add-on represents a significant step forward in personal accident coverage,” said MSIG Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Chua Seck Guan. “As the first general insurer in Malaysia to include assisted living benefits under a PA policy, we are committed to enhancing the scope of protection our customers receive. Accidents can drastically alter lives, and this add-on is about ensuring our policyholders have access to essential care and financial support during those critical times.”
With the Assisted Living add-on, MSIG Malaysia continues to strengthen its commitment to innovative, customer-centric insurance solutions, setting a new benchmark in the general insurance industry.
