BANGKOK — Thailand’s Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) is working with key industry bodies to fast-track damage assessments and insurance claims following the recent earthquake that affected multiple areas across the country.
In coordination with the Insurance Assessors Association and the Thai Loss Surveyors and Assessors Association, the OIC is streamlining the process for receiving damage reports linked to insured properties. With a surge in claims reported across various regions, insurance companies have deployed loss adjusters to inspect accessible affected sites.
According to the OIC, 85 licensed property assessors are currently operating at full capacity to ensure swift compensation for policyholders. The regulator has called on all loss assessment firms to prepare and expedite damage inspections as soon as they receive assignments from insurers.
To help accelerate the claims process, the OIC is urging insured individuals to take proactive steps. These include reviewing the terms of their property insurance coverage, documenting the damage through photos, promptly notifying their insurer, and preparing all necessary documentation such as repair quotations and receipts. Policyholders are also encouraged to clearly indicate damaged areas and provide detailed information to facilitate inspections.
“These actions will help streamline the claims process and ensure affected individuals receive the full and rightful compensation under their insurance policies,” the OIC stated.
The commission also issued a warning to the public about potential fraud. Policyholders are advised to be cautious of individuals falsely offering to assist with earthquake-related insurance claims.
