China’s National Healthcare Security Administration (NHSA) has introduced a new tip-off service via its official WeChat account to combat widespread medical insurance fraud. The service allows the public and social organizations to report potential fraud, with rewards for eligible informants ranging from Yuan 200 ($27) to Yuan 200,000.
The NHSA emphasized the detrimental impact of medical insurance fund misuse on public welfare and urged citizens to actively report fraudulent activities. In 2024, China’s medical insurance authorities recovered Yuan 27.5 billion in misused funds and arrested 10,741 individuals involved in fraud.
The government has committed to enhancing oversight of medical insurance funds to further reduce fraud and ensure the integrity of the system.
